How to Choose the Best Stairlift

Choosing a stairlift for yourself or your loved ones is an important task that needs careful consideration, as the wrong chairlift could be a very serious health hazard. Here are a few tips to help you select the right one for you and your home:

Consider the staircase design

When you choose a stairlift, think about your staircase design. Is it narrow or wide, straight or curved, is it a spiral staircase, does it begin or end with a doorway; all these will determine the kind of stairlift you get. Stairlift Advisor has both curved and straight stairlifts and you can also find foldable kinds for narrow staircases or ones with doorways.

Indoor or Outdoor Stairs

If you have stairs leading to your front door or the back yard/ garden, you can find a stairlift especially made for the outdoors so it can withstand strong weather conditions.

Your budget

The stairlift you choose will also depend on your budget. However, do not compromise on quality over money. Instead you can look at reconditioned options which will be lighter on the pocket, or can check your medical and healthcare insurance to see if that will cover it.

Consider timeframe

If your needs are temporary; a temporary medical condition or a visiting family member, you can always go for renting rather than buying a stairlift. If your needs are more permanent you should probably invest in buying a stairlift rather than just renting one.

Choose a reputable company

You should also make sure the makers of the chairlift you are buying are well-known, as this will directly affect the quality and durability. Stairlift Advisor can help you find stairlifts by some of the best names in the Industry, such as Stannah, Acorn, Brookes and Bison.

Consider personal needs

When choosing a design, consider the personal needs of the user, and their medical condition and other ailments. A swivel chair can make it easier and safer to disembark from the chair. If getting a foldable chair, think about whether the user can actually fold and unfold  the chair themselves every time effectively. Also think about whether it should have a joystick or a button to operate, depending on what you will be comfortable with. Also check if you can comfortably sit the chair and if it works for you, since you will be sitting in it a lot.

These are all important considerations when buying a stairlift, and these points must be kept in mind when you go shopping, as this is a serious decision that has life-long affects.

Considering the timeframe in which you need the stairlift is important. If you know the need for a stairlift is temporary that will help you choose which type and whether you want to rent it. Talking with your doctor about your condition before you purchase a stairlift would be beneficial.
