Help Your Children Make a Connection to Nature and Foods They Eat

Giving children the gift of books for the holidays is a gift that will stay with them for years to come. I recently found some that will help them make a connection to nature and the foods they eat.

Help Your Children Make a Connection to Nature and Foods They Eat

Teaching our children how to care for our planet, and how to sustain themselves is a gift that will follow them into adulthood. It not only helps them, but will someday benefit their families, and the rest of our planet as well. So when I discovered the Wild Tales and Garden Thrills books, I was stoked.

These books are perfect for kids ages seven to ten. (My son is eleven, and he loves them.) The three of these books are not only exceptional entertainment for kids and adults alike, but they help teach children the importance of nature, gardening, and the foods we eat.

Book One

Show Me the Green is book one in the series. Lexi and Jason Williams are bound and determined that they are going to win the First Annual Garden Contest put on by their local farmer’s market. In their battle against time and Mother Nature, the kids are discovering (and being sidetracked by) worms, poop, and more.

Book Two

Beans, Greens, and Grades is book two in this series. Lexi and Jason are back. This time their school principal enlists their help in creating a school garden at Beacon Academy. Though excited for this chance, they quickly learn how difficult it can be to work with others. Follow their journey, and see how they can make gardening fun for everyone.

Book Three

The third book in this series is called The Muddy Fingers Garden Crew. In this book we follow Jamal Livingston. He’s currently trying to help keep his community garden open. It’s in danger of being closed due to arguing volunteers. Since they donate a lot of their produce to local food pantry’s, he knows he can’t let it be closed down.

Expand the fun and the lessons

Not only are the books a fun read, but you can also get coloring books to go with each book. Children can enjoy coloring pictures from the stories that they have read.
