I just got the cutest book from Running Press. It’s called When I Carried You In My Belly. It would be a wonderful gift for mamas and their children.
When I Carried You In My Belly by Thrity Umrigar
This precious book celebrates a mother’s love, her daughter’s individuality, and how her extended family has been a part in making her who she is today. A mother’s bond with her baby begins long before she gives birth. One of my favorite excerpts for the book is, “When I carried you in my belly, Grandpa baked a chocolate cake each week, and cupcakes with frosting and sprinkles, and lots of love inside. And that is why you became….the sweetest girl that I know.”
I love how Thrity tells the story of being pregnant, and how everyone in her life influenced the little person her daughter has become. She explains how love, kindness, and fun shaped the child she is today. For example, because nana built her crib and polished it so much, the little girl dreams the softest dreams at night. How cute is that? This story will be a timeless addition to your children’s books.
Ziyue Chen illustrated this adorable children’s book. He pictures are fantastic! They’re bright and precious, and sure to make you and your little one smile. My son’s favorite image is the little girl snuggling on her dog. He said, “The dog is so cute mama! I want to kiss it!” Ziyue grew up in Singapore and graduated from Ringling College of Art and Design with a BFA in illustration.
