You may be looking forward to a camping trip this summer. It doesn’t matter whether you’re staying close to home or camping abroad. There are certain essentials that you should always have with you when you’re out in the great open. So pack up your tent and sleeping bag. Here are just some of the camping essentials you may not have thought about:

Tweezers

Camping outdoors means you are surrounded by nature in their home environment. Chances are you’re going to disturb hundreds of insects, birds, and mammals as you hike through the wilderness. While your tent may be secure enough to fend off the feathered and furry, your clothes, hair, and body could easily bring plenty of other wildlife inside. Ticks are a huge problem. They can cause very serious illnesses. If you find one attached to your body, it’s essential to get rid of it as soon as possible. Tweezers are the best way to make sure you remove it from its mouth.

Spare Phone Battery

Most phones will pick up a signal of some sort wherever you may be. This can mean your phone is draining its battery at all times, trying to connect to the signal. Carrying a spare, heavy-duty battery is essential when you’re out in the open. You may find the weather comes in, prolonging your trip away. Or you may have an emergency that needs you to get a text out for help. Even if your phone is switched off, the battery can start to drain as the temperature fluctuates from hot to cold. Carry a spare, just in case. A thermal imaging camera is a great tool to use when you are out in the elements.

Expert Advice

Even before you set off, it’s worth consulting experts like Trek Southwest for the latest advice about camping. You can get some handy tips about equipment or wearable tech that could help you while you’re away. It’s always worth heading to your local camping store to pick up fresh supplies or replace aging wet weather gear. And you might just pick up some useful ideas for things to do while you’re away camping too!

Emergency Car Kit

Most of us drive hundreds of miles to our favorite camping or hiking spots. But if your car breaks down somewhere in the wilderness, you’re not likely to find a recovery truck or garage for miles. It’s essential you can fix the basic problems you might encounter. Flat tires, flat batteries, and running out of fuel are common catastrophes when dozens of miles from help. Check your car has a full service before you drive out to rural or remote places. And keep a basic kit in the trunk to sort out any problems. Also, another item you might need are straps. You never know if you need to strap an item down and they do come in handy.

Roll of Plastic Bags

Plastic bags are, for the most part, waterproof. Having plenty of spare bags can save you the misery of hours of dampness when you’re caught in a shower. You can use them over your shoes. You can use them over your backpack. You can even use them inside your backpack as an extra layer of protection for all your essentials. And if your tent starts to leak, taping a bag over the outside will help you stay dry enough until you can get underway with repairs.
