Mardi Gras is a fun, bright celebration. Although we don’t live in New Orleans, we still like to celebrate and party during the colorful holiday.

If you browse online, there are endless amounts of cocktails that are made specifically for Mardi Gras. From purple and green Jell-o shots to King Cake cocktails, it seems to be that there’s a huge variety of drinks for adults.

Of course, I have kids of my own and I want to be able to serve them some themed-beverages as well. I recently came up with my Mardi Gras Blackberry Spritzer. Not only is it refreshing, but it offers the traditional purple and green color scheme that’s so appropriate to the holiday.

Mardi Gras Blackberry Spritzer

1 tsp granulated sugar

Ice cubes
1 fresh mint leaf

Yields: 1 glass (about 15 oz)

In a bowl, pour your sugar and add your blackberries. Crush the blackberries with the back of a spoon and make sure they get well combined with the sugar. Pour into your glass.

Pour in a can of soda and add ice cubes. Top with a fresh mint leaf. Your spritzer is now ready to serve!
