Beat Bathroom Mold and Mildew Like A Pro

Life is full of surprises, and some of those surprises happen to be better than others. Considering that everyone lives different lives, we can all look forward to something new. It could be a discovery of some sort, or maybe just a life change that was needed. On top of that, we all have plenty of dreams to work forward to. In fact, a popular dream that most people share happens to be owning a home.

Becoming a homeowner can change your life in more than one way. It’s a place where you’ll be able to settle down, or even start a family. The only thing about it is that you have to make sure things are safe. There are going to be areas of your home that may need some extra protection. I just so happen to know of something that would be of great assistance. So check out all of the information I have for you below.

Time To Get Your DAP On

So, the average bathroom remodels costs nearly $10,000 while the estimated mold remediation can cost up to nearly $6,000. Not everyone has that type of money laying around to get the help they need. Although, there are plenty of methods for you to invest in without having to burn a hole in your wallet. Here are a few tips to help protect against mold and mildew:

  • Thoroughly seal surfaces:
    • Key areas: Tile, tub surrounds, backsplashes, joints and around the sink
    • How-to: Remove the old caulk, thoroughly clean the area to remove any dirt or residue, then re-caulk with DAP Kwik Seal Ultra Sealant to repel water, stains, and dirt. This sealant stays looking fresh and new, plus it offers a lifetime mold and mildew resistance guarantee
    • Pro-tip: For a straight edge, apply painter’s masking tape to either side of the joint before applying the sealant. Here is a Quick Video.
  • Ensure proper ventilation:
    • Add a ventilation fan if you don’t have one and check to make sure it is appropriate for the size of your bathroom
    • Avoid venting into the space between ceiling joists—this can lead to moisture build up and mold
  • Squeegee shower walls:
    • After your shower or bath, squeegee the walls to send water down the drain, rather than leaving it to dry on its own on the walls
  • Seal grout lines:
    • Prevent water from penetrating grout lines by sealing them with a standard grout sealer on an annual basis. This prevents dark, unsightly mold from growing in hard-to-clean tiled areas
  • Regularly clean vanity cabinets:
    • Don’t forget to clean under the sink as you tidy up your bathroom. Using a mildew cleaner and a sponge to wipe down the inside of your vanity cabinets and drawers will greatly reduce the risk of mold and mildew appearing in areas you don’t always see. If you’re looking for a more natural approach, a solution of vinegar and water also works to get the job done

With the help of these incredible tips, not only will you save money, but your home will be safe too. So go ahead and check out all the information I have for you above.
