Ask These Important Questions Before Hiring A Handyman

Source

If you have a lot planned for your house in the coming months, such as renovations and decorations, you might start to wonder how you can fit all these jobs in! It might just be easier to hire some handymen to come in and do all that hard work for you. Doing so will certainly save you a lot of time and effort in the long run. As long as you hire a trustworthy handyman, that is! There are a lot of cowboys out there who will charge you a very high price for a terrible job. Make sure you don’t get fooled by one of these bad tradesmen! You can do that by asking them these very important questions.

Do You Have Any References?

Most handymen will have built up a list of previous clients who they can put you in touch with for references and testimonials. You should only hire someone who has glowing reviews, and whose customers were all very happy with the work that they did. It’s also a good idea to look on online review sites, as these are usually fairly balanced as people aren’t afraid to hide negative experiences when they are reviewing anomalously. If your chosen handyman doesn’t have any testimonials, or they are all very negative, you should look for someone else.

Are You Licensed To Trade?

Handymen will be able to get certain certificates in their trade to show that they are qualified in their line of work. Most of the time, they also need to have a license to start trading in the first place. So, next time you hire a plumber, Electrician, or carpenter, remember to ask to see their license. More often than not, they will have mentioned their license and other notable qualifications on their homepage. If you don’t see them, don’t be afraid to ask for them.

Will You Be Working On Your Own?

Some handymen work alone while others will have a team who they always bring on jobs with them. You should find out how your hired tradesman prefers to work, as you might be expected to pay more if they bring more people on board. If they bring more workers, it will also increase the foot traffic into your home, which you may not be thrilled about.

Do You Have The Necessary Insurance?

All workmen need to be insured so that they are covered should something go wrong while they are working. Their insurance also protects you. That’s because they need liability insurance. When they are covered with this, you won’t be liable for any injury that they suffer from while working on your property. Insurance will also cover any damage done to your property. Accidents do happen, and if they occur without the right insurance, you will have to put your hand in your pocket to pay for the repairs.

Make sure you don’t make the mistake of hiring a dodgy handyman; always ask these crucial questions before you offer someone a job!
