The holiday are right around the corner and everyone is looking for the perfect gift. Well, it doesn’t always have to be a toy. I have a nephew that struggles with reading so I like to gift him an assortment of books each year in hopes he will find one that sparks his interest and helps him become a better reader. Anzard will be under the tree for him this year. Christopher Conroy did an excellent job writing Anzard a booked geared towards middle school children.
Anzard is about a 10 year old boy, Justin Cavell, who is scared his parents may never come back from a trip they took to help the sick in a small fishing village. There was a horrible storm and the Cessna his father was flying crashed into a cave. During that moment of Justin’s prayers, on a far off planet called Spiritainia, a fairy, Poofy, was getting her first mission. And her mission was to fly to Earth and help Justin by making his life a little bit better.
When Poofy arrived on Earth she woke up Justin, made his acquaintance and then demanded some pizza! From there she tells Justin about Spiritainia and answers his billions of questions. They work together to find Justin’s mom and dad. And throughout this adventure Poofy helps Justin realize he knows more than he thinks he does. And that he has much inner strength. Throughout the book Justin is challenged and finds himself. He finds his inner voice and learns he is capable of much more than he ever thought. And Poofy is right there along the way. It’s Justin’s instincts that guide Justin and his Grandfather Ned to the cave where his parents plane had crashed. His parents are going to be ok! His mom and dad, Dr. Stephan Cavell and Noell Cavell, are taken to a nearby hospital where they receive the medical care they need. Once they are home safe Poofy returns to Spiritainia.
If you are looking for a book that is captivating and exciting Anzard is it. I’m an adult and I enjoyed reading Anzard. I can hardly wait for my nephew to get a chance to read it. I’m sure he is going to love it.
