Let me start by saying, my son LOVES these! Aardvark sent us their new Halloween straws, and like me, Liam adores Halloween. So yes, he uses them every day. He has a hard time with regular cups, so without a straw, he has to use a sports bottle. He said he, “feels like a big boy now!”
As a mom, I love that they are made from paper and are eco friendly, compostable, and biodegradable. FDA approved, BPA free, and contain no chlorine. Did you know that the plastic straws most people use are made from Polypropylene. Polypropylene is a petroleum bi-product and is what we use to fuel our vehicles. Those plastic straws are designed to last forever. Therefore, they end up in a dump. That’s 500,000,000 plastic straws being thrown away, every day!
As far as wildlife, plastic straws are one of the top 10 debris items found. 44% of sea birds and mammals have ingested those nasty plastic straws! I certainly wouldn’t want to see an animal injured from a straw.
These straws are made in the USA and always have been! In 1888 Marvin Stone patented the first paper straw. It’s the same one made by Aardvark today, in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The Aardvark straws are very sturdy. We each use one a day, and they last all day! They also don’t bleed into your drink like many other paper straws. The ones that we received are even bendable. Perfect for Liam and I both.
Along with all of these other reasons, the Aardvark straws are very cute. I love the designs and colors. (There are over 200 color and pattern combinations, for every season and occasion. They will even print custom designs!) Liam got three designs to choose from, and uses a different one each day.
