‘Vacation’ should be my middle name! What can I say? I love to travel. Lucky for me, so do my husband and kids. There’s nothing more adventurous than discovering historical landmarks, learning about different cultures and tasting exotic food.
Speaking of food, there is so much you can try during your travels – even if you’re on a tight budget! Over the years, I’ve learned to stick with my ‘planned expenditures’ while still satisfying my foodie palette.
Six Ways to Save on Food When Traveling
Take advantage of your hotel and dig into their morning-meal accommodations! When you’re booking a room, inquire about their breakfast packages. Many economy and family-friendly hotels have complimentary continental breakfasts.
Is it in the Package?
Itching to go on vacation? Why not book a trip that’s all-inclusive so that you don’t have to worry about a food budget? All-inclusive trips are one of the most popular choices because the planning is left up to the resorts: meal time, activity time, etc.
Pack it Up for the Road!
Planning a long road trip? Pack up a cooler and “brown bag” some sandwiches and snacks. It can help you save some big bucks by avoiding fast-food restaurants along the freeway.
East Outside the Park!
Theme-park food can get pricey. If you can, step out of the park for meal time. Many parks have “in and out” passes, meaning that you can leave and come back as you please.
When booking a room, try to look for ones with mini kitchenettes. This way, you can shop at a nearby grocery store and cook food to save money.
Eat Like a Local
Tourist areas tend to have steeper price points. Before heading out on your travel adventures, do some research and check out local favorites in restaurants, bars and cafés.
