Bringing a new pet especially a dog into the home will require some big changes. You need to give the dog a chance to get settled and get used to their new home. - Breed
Different breeds have different needs. Do some research to find out what breed will best fit into your home. Some dogs will need a lot of exercise while others are fine laying indoors. There are some dogs that will join in outdoor activity such as the Golden Retriever or the Dalmatian. They like to stay active and have outdoor adventures.

- Prepare
Before bringing the dog home be sure you have everything you need including food, water bowls, toys, and other pet supplies.

Walking the dog is important and there are some leashes needed for training. Nylon or leather leashes are the best for training. Do not get the retractable leash as it will allow the dog to pull.
You need to teach the dog to walk without pulling you. Speak to a vet about the best collar or harness to use. Martial collar will not twist. Also be sure to have an id tag on the collar if the dog gets away.
- Finding Food
Ask your vet for a recommendation when it comes to doing food. If the dog is already on a certain type of food do not immediately change it. Mix a little bit of the new food in until the dog is used to it.
- Think Healthy
Select a vet in your area based on their experience and qualification. Be sure the dog has all their needed vaccinations. At the first sign of trouble ring the dog to the vet for a checkout. It is also recommended to get the dog spayed or neutered as soon as possible.
- Socialize
Your dog may be nervous when it meets the new family. Introduce the dog to family members, friends, and other pets. Be sure to keep an eye on the dog for the first couple of days so they do not become stressed.
Bringing home a new dog can be stressful. It is important to take it slow and allow the dog to get used to its new home. With some work and persistence, you will have a new best friend.
