Want to go somewhere different this spring break? Instead of going to the typical beaches frequented by college students, head to one of the United States’ bustling cities. Surround yourself with the culture of a new part of the country and plan a unique trip that everyone will enjoy. Here are some recommendations for cities that are particularly fun to visit during the spring months.

Scottsdale, AZ

The Phoenix/Scottsdale area of Arizona can reach scorching temperatures in the summer months, but the weather is beautiful in the spring. If you’re traveling during April and May, there is plenty of fun to be had. Head to one of the many resorts or take a dip in Lake Pleasant. There are a multitude of outdoor festivals, for everything from wine to tacos to Native American art. Scottsdale is a spring haven with varied activities for all ages and interests and warm weather to make everyone happy.

New York, NY

New York City is a great tourist destination at any time of the year, but spring in particular has its charms. It will likely be a little chilly, but that shouldn’t stop you from getting out and exploring. Head to the New York Botanical Garden to see some fresh blooms, and take part in outdoor activities such as parades and festivals. Spring is also a great time to see a Broadway show. There are limited run shows that you can only see at this time, so plan ahead and get your tickets early. One example for this season is “She Loves Me,” a romantic tale starring celebrities including Zachary Levi and Jane Krakowski. There is never a shortage of things to do in the city that never sleeps, so take advantage of its allure during your break.

Washington, D.C.

Our nation’s capital is a beautiful city during the spring, especially if you are there to see the cherry blossoms. The famous blossoms usually hit their peak bloom in late March, and they can be seen in the surrounding weeks. There is a National Cherry Blossom Festival each year that includes events from parades to fireworks. The weather will also be warming up, so it’s a nice time to take a walk to some great landmarks, including the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. Take time to see the historical museums while there, but embrace the beauty of the city in spring.

San Francisco, CA

San Francisco weather doesn’t play by the rules, so spring is basically their summer. This is the time to hit the northern California beaches and relax in the sun. It’s also a great city for outdoor drinking, so head to the patios. Popular spots, such as Biergarten, actually extend their hours in the spring so you can really take advantage of the warm temperatures. In addition to drinking and sunbathing, there are plenty of activities including food festivals, the Alcatraz Challenge and catching a baseball game at AT&T Park.
