Anyone that has expensive jewellery is going to want to make sure that they take good care of it. And yet, despite the obvious large investment in jewellery many people neglect to clean their pieces on a regular basis. One reason for this is because it may not get worn that frequently making it seem somewhat pointless to clean it. Another reason is because they simply are not sure of a safe way to clean their jewellery. The following are some quick tips that can help you get the shine back on your jewellery in no time without worrying about inflicting any damage.
Warm Water and Soft Soap
The first thing you can do is a simple warm water and soap rinse. You want to choose a non-abrasive soap that does not have any bleach or any other harsh chemical in it to avoid tarnishing any of your jewellery. Simple hand soap or dish soap such as Fairy should be safe and gentle enough to use. Just take a little bit of the soap, about two drops, and mix it in a soapy rinse with the water in a cup. Drop the jewellery in and massage it under the water, but be careful not to do this near a sink as it will make the jewellery slippery and you do not want to drop anything down the drain.
Buy Jewellery Rinse
If you are hesitant to use just any old soap on your jewellery you can also always pick up some jewellery rinse from almost any supermarket. While jewelers often sell their own products, you can usually pick up a general jewellery rinse at a department store as well for a much lower price. The rinse only requires you to soak your jewellery for a set amount of time at which point a lot of the dirt, but perhaps not all, will be lifted off of it.
Return to Merchant
Depending on where you purchased your jewellery you might have a warranty or a care plan attached to the purchase. If this is the case then you can just return the jewellery to the merchant and they will clean it on the spot for you. Those that are worried about a specific piece such as a wedding ring often find that this is an easy and quick way to get the shine back on a ring or any other significant piece of jewellery.
Use an Ultrasonic Cleaner
Of course, the machine that most merchants will use to clean your jewellery is an ultrasonic cleaner which you can also purchase for home use. It comes as a surprise to most, but you can actually purchase ultrasonic cleaners online and then wash all of your jewellery at home and get that same shine on every item of jewellery that you own. It only takes minutes to wash with an ultrasonic cleaner and the result will dazzle just about anyone and turn old looking jewellery into bright and new jewellery in just seconds.
