Is your bathroom looking old and dull? Over time bathrooms start to look a little worse for wear. You have to remember that your bathroom is one of the rooms in the home that you use the most. That means that it can start looking old before its time. As a new year approaches, you should start thinking about your resolutions. Maybe one of next year’s resolutions should be to give your bathroom a mini-makeover. The way your bathroom looks can do wonders for your home. When people use the bathroom in your home, you want them to comment on it (for the right reasons). Here are just a few DIY tips that will help spruce up your bathroom without spending loads of money.

Re-grouting your floor

If you have loose tiles in your bathroom, that is not a good look at all. People tend to believe that tiling is an expensive job. If you’re using a rug to cover up broken tiles, it is time to sort things out for good. Re-grouting your tiles is not as difficult as you think. In fact, it is an easy job that will take you less than an hour. You can buy grout from most good DIY stores. When you buy the grout, you should also buy a trowel. Mix the grout in a bucket at home before you start. You will need to pull up any loose tiles so that you can stick them back down. Use a trowel to smear grout on the floor and pop the tiles back on top. Simple.

Getting rid of stains

When you use the shower or bath every day, it is likely that few stains appear on the tiles around the bathtub. One of the worst things that stains tiles is hair dye. When you dye your hair a prominent color, you will notice that the color stains your tiles as well as your hair. A top tip for getting rid of stains on tiles is to use fresh lemon juice on the stain. The acidic juice is great for cleaning away stains and also smells good when you use it. Make sure that you rinse the tiles after scrubbing them with lemon juice for the best results.

Tips for getting rid of clutter

Clutter is one of the main things that makes bathrooms look old and messy. It is easy to accumulate many lotions and potions in your bathroom, but it makes the room look small. Throw away any old bottles that you no longer use. You may have fifty bath gift sets that you got for Christmas, but if you’re not going to use them, throw them out or store them somewhere. Invest in some great storage options for your bathroom. You might want some metal hanging baskets or unique bathroom vanities. Make sure that the storage you choose suits your bathroom style. If you are getting a new vanity, it might be best to get a professional to help you fix it to the wall.

Revamping the lighting

Poor lighting will make your bathroom look dingy and dirty. It doesn’t matter how clean you get a room, if the lighting is dim; the room will have an off-yellow tinge to it. New lighting fixtures will make a world of difference to your room. Look for lighting that is bright and light. Lights that have a large lampshade over them look dimmer than open lighting arrangements. Make sure that you find some lighting that perks up the look of your room. If the light still appears to be dim when you have a new fixture, you may need to get an electrician to look at the problem.
